Soldiers' National Monument stands at the central point of Gettysburg National Cemetery. The monument is 60 feet tall, made of granite, and designed by sculptor Randolph Rogers and architect George Keller. The last four lines of the Gettysburg Address are written on it.
A statue of the Genius of Liberty stands on top, and eighteen bronze stars circle the pedestal, one for each Union state with buried dead. Four statues at the corners are War, History, Peace and Plenty, and together they tell a story of peace and plenty after a hard struggle.
The cornerstone was laid on July 4, 1865, and the monument was dedicated in 1869. Many people think it marks where Lincoln gave his speech. Wikipedia says it does not: scholars place the speech about 40 yards east of the monument.
